CLOGHER Valley U18 side came away with five league points in a hard-fought contest against Monaghan at the Cran.

It was the visitors who were first to score with a try down the left but the Valley soon responded with a try from Shane Liggett.

The Clogher score was soon doubled with a try from Blake Hunter and a conversion from

Dylan Griffith.

At the interval, the home side led by 12-5 but they were not having their own way.

Monaghan, a strong physical side, dictated the play and kept forcing the mistakes from the Valley.

In the final quarter Logan Goudy drove over to score for Clogher after a series of pick and go from the Valley pack.

The fourth and bonus point try came from the hard work of David Poyntz who collected the ball from a Monaghan clearance kick on the wing at the half way line. He weaved his way through the chasing Monaghan backs, then through the Monaghan pack, only to get caught 10 metres out from the Monaghan try line.

He had the presence of mind to look out wide for support and found Shane Liggett who strolled over the line to score his second and Valley’s fourth try.
