Draw was a fair result says Galaxy boss Mcintyre

Ekn Galaxy 2 Fintona Swifts 2

Enniskillen Galaxy and Fintona Swifts shared the spoils last Saturday at the Lakeland Forum to both move on to two points each in the Division Two table.

A late goal from Michael Dooris earned Galaxy a point after Dooris initially put the home side in front before Fintona struck back to go 2-1 up at half time.

After an even opening 20 minutes, Eunan Mccusker’s goal kick cleared the Fintona back four, allowing Robbie Regan to run through on goal before being taken down by the Swifts goalkeeper.

Michael Dooris stepped up to convert the penalty and give his side the lead.

However, Galaxy were not able to build on their bright beginning to the game and instead were caught out at the back by good pressing from the Fintona forward line as they pulled back level with 35 minutes played.

Five minutes later, Fintona found themselves 2-1 up as they again forced an error in the Galaxy backline and finished to go in front as the half-time whistle blew.

Galaxy were much improved at the start of the second half, Noel Martin saw his effort come off the post after Daryl Kelly went on a mazy run.

A high ball then dropped to Regan and his well-executed volley was blocked on the six-yard line by the Swifts captain.

For all Galaxy’s pressure, Fintona almost found a third goal, but goalkeeper Mccusker made two great saves from two free kicks to keep the lead at one goal. Christopher Corrigan also denied Fintona when he got his toe on the end of a cross to divert it away from goal and wide.

Galaxy changed formation to 3-4-3 heading into the final 15 minutes of the contest and it paid off as Haydn Love dribbled down the right before cutting in on his left foot and crossing the ball into the box to find Dooris who headed home to make it 2-2.

Following the draw, Enniskillen Galaxy manager Daniel Mcintyre said: “It was a poor 20-minute spell at the end of the first half and because of that I think a draw was a fair result, Fintona took their chances when they came but I was very proud of our second half performance.

“The boys gave us a response and fought hard to get the equaliser and it was well deserved.

“Overall, a fair result and now we’ll roll into this weekend when we play Maguiresbridge away.”
