First half goals seal the win for Wanderers
Orchard Farm 0 Irvinestown Wanderers 2
Goals from Barry O’sullivan and Joey Miller gave Irvinestown Wanderers a 2-0 win away from home against Orchard Farm last Saturday.
The win leaves Wanderers in second place three points behind Omagh Hospitals with a game in hand. Wanderers’ assistant manager Andy Mccutcheon took charge of Saturday’s win and was left delighted with the result:
“Firstly, really pleased with what was a massive win for us. We knew it would be a tough game away from home against a side who have a genuine goal threat, so to come away with three points and a clean sheet was important.
“Our first-half performance won us the game. We played with an intensity which I hadn’t seen from us since joining the club. Movement in the final third was excellent and we looked dangerous every time we went forward.
“Second half we lost our intensity and started rushing things, however, defensively we were sound and so we were able to see the game out.” Irvinestown took the lead through a well-placed shot from Barry O’sullivan in the first half and it didn’t take long to find a second as Joey Millar found the net following some good build-up play.
Orchard Farm grew into the game after being second-best for the majority of the first half.
However, chances did not come easily for either side in the second and Irvinestown held on to their two-goal advantage to take all three points.
The result sees Orchard Farm remain in fifth spot in the table.
Irvinestown Wanderers are away again this weekend as they face bottom-of-the-table Lisnarick while Orchard Farm have no game.
