‘It was all about winning’ says Breen

-

TEMPO’S Aidan Breen acknowledged that Sunday’s performance against Belcoo in difficult conditions was not the most thrilling that his side have ever produced but semi-finals are all about winning and that’s what the Maguires did as they progressed through to an IFC Final against Devenish.

“It wasn’t pretty but it is all about getting over the line at the end of the day,” said Breen, who saw Tempo get off to the perfect start but then fail to score for the remainder of the first half.

“We got to a great start with the goal but we were disappointed then with the rest of the first half.

“We were a bit slack and maybe it took us a while to adjust to the conditions but we had four or five wides that were scoreable.

“It has been the theme of all our games this year in that we have been jittery in the first half but finished strongly in the second and that is something we need to work on for the final, to start strong,” he said.

Tempo and Devenish have both come through to the final unbeaten but Breen believes the Garrison side will be strong favourites.

“I haven’t seen them but going by reports they have been good.

“You know what you are going to get with them, they are a good side and they will be hurting after losing the final last year so they will obviously be coming into the final as red hot favourites. But, hopefully, we can get to their level and maybe cause a shock.”

And Breen has been pleased with the momentum that Tempo have built following a diffiult league.

We had a stop start league but we have got momentum in the Championship, and we have just looked to keep building on it.

“Thankfully we have won four in a row to get us this far and hopefully now we can get one more win in the final,” he said.
