Jo and Eamonn secure the first wins in the Christmas vouchers competitions

SO THAT dreaded time of year has arrived when we start to compete for Christmas Vouchers. (I know I know it’s not even Hallowe’en yet, but who wants to win pumpkins?)

The first one went to Jo Maes, with a very tidy 38pts, Aiden Leonard and Fred Kavanagh picked up the runners-up.

In the second and final one before we switch to the 14-hole winter format, Eamonn Flynn came home in an incredible 42pts – well done to Eamonn on a fantastic round

Gareth Mcgovern and Jo Maes placed 2nd and 3rd, Jo showing a bit of late season form.

Winter League

A HUGE field again has entered in what is now becoming one of the most popular of competitions. Given the time of year and sometimes adverse weather conditions it’s great that so many take this so seriously.

With 15 teams drawn out in an even a manner as possible and handicap restrictions and add-ons sorted out by Aiden Melanaphy – whose trogan work makes this league possible – the league kicked off last week with all but a handful of players returning cards.

The first results are in and as expected with some of the WHS system in play, there were a few whoppers out there, but this will all level out in the coming weeks once deductions are applied. For those who see their teams performing poorly – remember, the worst week is taken away from your final tally. So essentially you can have one bad week as a team, but try not to repeat it every week.

There will be weekly individual winners as well as team points on offer. This week, Brendan Casey took the honours with an incredible 43pts, followed home by Kevin Forde and Alan Hickey on 35pts each.

Teams 6 and 8 are leading the way after week one with 130pts each, but it’s too early to tell who is who just yet. Hopefully the weather will be a bit better this week, but the course is holding up really well.

Fundraising

THE club have recently launched a fundraising draw for a very novel prize of a tractor. It has seen a huge amount of interest, and at €10 per ticket, it’s well worth a flutter. Tickets are available via our webpage, Blackliongolfclub.com, or from any club members or in the clubhouse.
