Wallace bags hat-trick as Town romp to win

Enniskillen Town continued their relentless push at the top of the Mercer League table with a resounding 7-0 win over Derrychara United at the Lakeland Forum on Saturday.

The game was done and dusted inside the opening 30 minutes as Town raced into a 4-0 lead thanks to a brace from Lee Brennan and efforts from Duwayne Mcmanus and Frank Wallace.

Wallace went on to bag another two in the second half to complete a hat-trick while captain Cathal Beacom also got in on the scoring act as Town remain four clear of Tummery Athletic at the summit of the table although the Dromore outfit do have a game in hand.

Town have been free-scoring this season with Saturday’s seven bringing their tally to 39 in ten league outings but it was the cleansheet that pleased joint manager James Mckenna the most on the day.

“That is what we were happiest with,” said Mckenna.

“We had been disappointed that after starting with five clean-sheets we then conceded eight goals in our last four games and we spoke to the players ahead of Saturday about keeping a clean-sheet.

“That was the biggest focus for us, we wanted to get back to being hard to score against because we know with the midfielders and forwards that we have that we can score goals and create chances at the other end.

“We actually could have conceded early on as they had a good chance but after that we did well.”

The win keeps Town four points clear but Mckenna expects two much tougher tests in the next two weeks.

“Look, it was another win and it keeps us ticking along but we have two tough tests coming up with Strathroy this Saturday and then Beragh the week after. These are two real tricky tests against two very good sides.

“We have Strathroy at home this week and our home form has been good since we moved to St. Michael’s so hopefully we can continue that but we have to keep showing the same attitude and we know that it is only early days yet in terms of the league,” he added.

Derrychara did have an early chance to take the lead after a mix up at the back by Town but they failed to take it from that it was all one way traffic.

The talented Brennan was a threat throughout and he opened the scoring, coming in off the right and finishing with a low effort to the corner.

It was soon two as Mcmanus clipped home a delightful free kick after Brendan Lilley was fouled.

Wallace then grabbed his first of the day after being slipped in by Kane Connor and the points were in the bag on the half hour mark when Brennan curled a fine effort to the top corner.

Town remained in control in the second as Wallce made it 5-0 after being put through one on one and Beacom made it six from a header.

Wallace then rounded things off when he was again put through and he made no mistake to complete his hat-trick.

The defeat leaves Derrychara with still only the one point to their name from their opening ten games.

They are away to Mountfield in a big game at the bottom on Saturday.
