Delight as school opens new Speech and Language Class

-

HOLY Trinity Primary and Nursery School was delighted to open a new Speech and Language Class recently.

Opened in September, the class caters for pupils who have specific difficulty with speech, language and communication and completes the suite of learning support provision in the school, which now includes a Nurture Room, Autism Class and Learning Support Classes.

School principal, Brian Treacy, said he was delighted with the provision currently available in the school.

He said: “We now have the full range of provision to meet the needs of the children in our local community. The Speech and Language class is a wonderful addition to the school and complements the great work already being undertaken in our Nurture Room, Autism class, Learning Support Classes and indeed mainstream classes to meet the individual needs of our children.

“We are very grateful to the Education Authority for their support in establishing this provision.”

Currently there are four pupils in the class, with numbers expected to grow in the coming months. Class teacher Bronagh Corrigan said she was delighted to be working with the children, and could already see the positive difference it was making to them.

She added that with support through speech-language therapy and educational adjustments, pupils with Developmental Language Disorder can thrive. On Thursday, October 13, parents joined their children in their classroom to celebrate the new class and to recognise Developmental Language Disorder Awareness Day.
