Historical society launches book
LISNASKEA Historical Society is delighted to announce the launch of their book, ‘Lough Head Revealed’, which will take place on Friday, November 25, 2022 at the Archdale Hall, Lisnaskea.
‘Lough Head Revealed’ is an enthralling 164-page compilation of history and heritage of the Lough Head and surrounding area including lighthearted reminiscences and poetic prose.
Included are oral histories from loughside inhabitants, some sharing the wealth of the beautiful flora and fauna basically right on our doorstep, plus a number of poetic offerings, not least several previously unpublished poems by the late author and historian, John James Reihill.
The title of Lough Head Revealed was chosen as it is one of those places that when you mention it, even to locals, they would say “where’s that?”.
Lisnaskea Historical Society’s vision was to highlight the history and heritage of the area and to educate, reveal and uncover more of this special place, bringing it back into our everyday awareness once again.
There is more to it than the Lough Head ‘birdie walk’ as you’ll read in the book. Various people have contributed articles to the book, including Dr Paul Logue, Vicky Herbert, Brian Osborne, Adrian Farrell, Robert Henshall and more.
Photographic content is original bar the few historic images, thanks to the various authors who provided photographs and to Ciaran Smyth and Stewart Moore.
The artwork on the rear cover was commissioned for us by local Artist, Kevin Mchugh and depicts the artist’s view of History of the Lough Head through the Ages.
The book is edited by Linda Swindle and published by Ecclesville Printing Services, Fintona.
Copies of the book will be on sale at the launch. Please do come along at 7.30pm on Friday, November 25 to the Archdale Hall, Lisnaskea and enjoy an evening of music, poetic recitalsfollowed by refreshments. Admission is free but booking is required either by email to lisnaskea-history@hotmail.com or via facebook message to @ Oldlisnaskeapastpresent
Lisnaskea Historical Society would also like to thank all those who contributed to the book and to Lough Erne Landscape Partnership who supported this project through funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
