Captains Dinner

THE Captains’ Dinner last Saturday was a great success with beautiful food supplied by Aiden Fitzpatrick and Cavan Country Produce.

Captain Denis Parker and Lady Captain Eileen Mcdonald would like to thank everyone who attended, and to all who supported them in their year of tenure.

ENNISKILLEN Athletic ABC’S Ben Millar put on a masterful display of boxing at the weekend to claim gold in the Wexford Box Cup.

The competition itself is seen as the largest and most competitive Junior Box Cup in Ireland and beyond with teams travelling from all across Europe to compete against the best of the best in their respected age groups.

Ben was drawn for a semi-final on the Saturday against last year’s All-ireland semi-finalist from Rylane Boxing Club in Cork. After a cagey first round, Ben stepped it up in the second round, landing a devastating body shop to slow his opponent down.

THE postponed 2020 finals of the Eamon & Bernie’s Memorial Darts tournament will finally take place in Eamon’s Piano Bar in Blacklion this Sunday night – and a night of top-quality darts action is in prospect as the competitors battle it out for the €2,000 showed his class by comfortably beating his opponent to the punch, countering and making all his shot selections land to win the bout by unanimous decision.

Whilst the weight cut was tough for Ben – he had to fast without food or water for all over Saturday afternoon and evening to weigh in again for the final on the Sunday – once his weight was made, he was up against a local Wexford boxer from Marble City Boxing Club.

The coaches knew from the outset that for Ben to get the decision he would have to win and put on a show as they know it can be difficult to get the result, especially against a home town favourite.

But Ben is never fazed, and prize money that’s up for grabs.

The History Maker, Belcoo’s Brendan Dolan, is among those who qualified for the quarter finals of the tournament along with Andrew Dempsey, Ben Mccaffrey, Sean Mcgowan, Declan stepped into the bout and again put on a clinic of boxing.

Each round was won comfortably, even the last round whereby his opponent knew he was losing and came out aggressive and looking for the finish, but this just played into Ben’s hands as he countered everything his opponent threw at him to again win the bout by unanimous decision.

This was Ben’s first competition of the season and is the perfect start.

To hold such a prestigious title and to be the first to claim the gold from Fermanagh and Tyrone is a huge achievement.

This will be a big season ahead for Ben, and the club can’t wait to see what he goes on to achieve.

Cunningham, Michael Mansell, Colin Brady and John Thackrah.

The last eight round will be the best of seven legs, the semi-finals the best of nine, and the final the best of 11 legs.

The action gets under way at 6pm.
