Millar’s goal sends Wanderers back to the top of the table

IRVINESTOWN Wanderers bounced back from last week’s defeat to Omagh Hospitals with victory over Enniskillen Galaxy to move back to the top of the Division Two table.
Wanderers’ Manager Darren Higginbottom was left pleased with the result despite his side’s performance: “I think Saturday showed that football is very much swings and roundabouts.
“We were very frustrated not to get anything from the game against Omagh Hospitals after a good performance.
“However, we were fortuitous to get the win at the weekend. The performance wasn’t at the level I would expect, but we got the three points, and that’s the main thing.”
Irvinestown scored the only goal of the game 25 minutes in with a Joey Millar goal.
Christopher Lyons found Millar in the box, and he turned and struck the ball into the bottom left corner to make it 1-0.
Michael Dooris went close to an equaliser for Galaxy but his effort came off the post and Wanderers keeper Jerome Carlton was forced to make a save from Barry Mcintyre, with Galaxy pushing for an immediate response.
Craig Humes wasn’t far off finding a second five minutes before the half-time whistle, but his 30-yard effort flew just over the crossbar.
The away side had the chance to double their lead from the penalty spot on the hour mark, but Adam Wallace’s spot kick was saved by Eunan Mccusker low to the ’keeper’s
right.
Galaxy again went close as they hit the post for a second time through Gareth Dykes after a pass from Dooris.
The Enniskillen side pushed hard for a late equaliser, and it was the post that denied them for the third time in the 85th minute.
Eamon Mchugh chased down goalkeeper Carlton’s clearance and fired his effort against the woodwork, but it wasn’t to be for Galaxy.
After the game, Enniskillen Galaxy Manager Daniel Mcintyre said: “We are all really happy with the performance; there were a lot of positives from the game.
“The intensity and the energy was high from the lads; we created good opportunities against a good Irvinestown side.
“They’ve got some good players in the middle of the pitch.
“We just have to keep plugging away; we have six home games from the nine remaining games and we will go into Lisnarick at the weekend feeling strong.”
With Galaxy facing Lisnarick this Saturday, Irvinestown Wanderers have a home clash against Orchard Farm.
