Lisnaskea let two goal lead slip

LISNASKEA Rovers lost a two-goal lead as their winning streak in Division Three came to end with a 2-2 draw at Castle Park against Drumquin United on Saturday.

Brian Mcdermott and Paul Og O’reilly were on target for Rovers as their draw means they remain at the top of the table following highscoring wins against Fivemiletown United II, Enniskillen Rovers, Dunbreen Rovers and Newtownstewart United.

Lisnaskea took the lead not long into the first half as Mcdermott’s cross found O’reilly, who fired the ball into the net on the volley.

Rovers went on to rue a bundle of chances as they missed an opportunity to double their lead before the half-time break.

However, Rovers did find a second goal 15 minutes into the second half when Mcdermott got on the end of a through ball and went around the goalkeeper to finish calmly to make it 2-0 to the hosts.

And Mcdermott thought he had made it three when he finished low shortly after, but the referee overruled his initial decision and disallowed the goal.

Unfortunately, it’s two points dropped in my eyes, I thought some of the referee’s decisions spoiled the game; it didn’t feel like we lost, so it’s frustrating, but we will move on

Drumquin, though, fought to get themselves back into the game and despite the impressive performances of O’reilly and Niall Mcmahon at the back, the away side were able to pull one back after Rovers failed to clear the ball.

And Drumquin’s equaliser came five minutes from time, much to the disappointment of Lisnaskea, as the ball flew off the Drumquin striker’s hand to bounce over the line and grab a point for the away side.

Lisnaskea Rovers Manager Shane O’donnell was left disappointed after missing out on an extra two points.

“Unfortunately, it’s two points dropped in my eyes, I thought some of the referee’s decisions spoiled the game; it didn’t feel like we lost, so it’s frustrating, but we will move on,” he said.

The draw moves Drumquin two points behind Omagh Albion with a game in hand.

Rovers are scheduled to take on Albion this weekend away from home, while Drumquin do not have a fixture.
