Strong second half seals win for Beragh

Beragh Swifts 4 Enniskillen Ath 1

-

Beragh Swifts made it six wins from ten as they moved into the top four in the Mercer League on Saturday thanks to goals from Lee Mccullagh, Sam Mckelvey and a brace from Stephen Browne to defeat Enniskillen Athletic 4-1 at Fountain Lane.

It was Athletic who took an early lead in the game as Conor Mcaloon found himself in the box with the ball and saw his shot saved before firing in the rebound to make it 1-0.

Beragh drew themselves level in the first half as they won the ball on the halfway line and fed Mccullagh down the left wing, he ran into the box and fired the ball in at the near post to tie the game up and leave the score line at 1-1 heading into half time.

There were half chances for both sides in the second half, but it was the home side who made the breakthrough with just over 20 minutes to go in the game.

A short corner was worked out to Mckelvey around 25 yards from goal and he struck the ball low through a host of bodies to find the bottom left corner and make it 2-1.

The Swifts all but sealed the game with just over ten minutes left as Browne latched onto a ball that was played in behind the Athletic defence to find himself one-on-one with goalkeeper Ryan Mcnulty and he stayed calm to finish at the near post with his left foot.

Beragh were then awarded a penalty for a foul inside the box and Browne stepped up to bag his second, finishing into the bottom right corner to make it 4-1 and conclude proceedings.

Enniskillen Athletic manager Darren Rodgers was left disappointed following Saturday’s result.

“We played well in the first half and went into the break at 1-1.

“However, we never really came out in the second half which is disappointing.”

Athletic face Mountjoy this weekend, a game in which both sides will be desperate to win as three points separate the sides in the league table.

Beragh Swifts will be hoping to build on last weekend’s performance as they face leaders Enniskillen Town away from home.
