Novel ‘Battle For The Erne’ competition to take place at Brewster

-

Who will win the Battle For The Erne? We will soon find out with the novel competition set to get underway next Friday, November 25.

The new competition, which is being hosted by Enniskillen Gaels at Brewster Park an sponsored by Modern Tyres and Killyhevlin Lakeside Hotel and Lodges, will be run in both Men and Ladies sections.

The Men’s competition will see Fermanagh split into four sectors; North, South, East and West with club players from those areas competing for their respective regions.

The semi-finals will be held on Friday November 25 and the winners will then meet in the final on Sunday December 4

The Ladies section will have Fianna Fear Manach come up against Fear Manach Tír

Na Hóige and that game will be played on Sunday December 4.

And there will be some familiar names on the line for each team. Barry Owens will take charge of South and his former Fermanagh team-mate Marty Mcgrath will be in charge of North.

Tempo man Conor Foy will take the reins of East while Martin Greene will be over West.

In the Ladies section, Fianna Fear Manach will be managed by Paul Mcgrath while Shauna Mccrystal will be over ear Manach Tír Na Hóige.

Organiser Padraig Lunny explains the thoughts behind the competition.

“We just thought that it would be a nice, fun sign off for club players at the end of the season.

“I suppose, you have a lot of club players who have only played with their own clubs and the same group all of their lives and this allows them to play with players from different clubs.

“It also gives players who have maybe always played in Division Two the chance to play with and against Division One players,” he said.

The opening night will be a family night with the Anglo Celt Cup on display while the action on the pitch will be followed by music in the clubhouse.

All games will all be videoed and will able to be viewed over the following days.

The organisers will make a donation from the gate to RNLI following the competition.
