THERE have been some fishy goings on at the Ardhowen Theatre this week.

Enniskillen Light Operatic have been busy transforming the stage into a magical undersea world for their production of Disney’s Little Mermaid which opens tonight (Thursday).

The ELO show has been a part of the build-up to Christmas for decades. However, with the impact of Covid-19, this is the first full musical the group has put on since 2019. The cast and crew have been working hard for many months to bring this joyous production to life.

One of those looking forward to tonight is co-director Danielle Gallagher, who said: “It is utterly joyous to be back, and with such an amazing show too.

“We always pride ourselves on delivering a good show, but this one promises to be exceptional. The set, the costumes, the music and of course the cast are all extraordinary, and we can’t wait to get out there in front of an audience.”

Excitement among the cast is at fever pitch. Leading man Harry Parkinson (16) is taking on the role of Prince Eric in his production with ELO.

The ERGS student is looking forward to opening night tonight. He said: “I have never done a musical before, so to get the lead is quite good on the first go!

“I am looking forward to the opening night; it will be good to see that all the work that we have put in has paid off.”

Speaking about the personal highlights for him, Harry said: “My favourite number is, ‘She’s in Love’, even though it is not one of my own, but my favourite of my own in ‘One Step Closer’.”

Cara Murphy (16) is playing the role of Flounder. She first appeared in an ELO production (‘The Wizard of Oz’) while she was in primary school, and is looking forward to getting the show on the road.

Speaking of her role, Cara said: “I really like the character and one of my songs, ‘She’s in Love’ is a bit of a cast favourite.”

Cara is looking forward to settling into the role as the scenes roll on. Speaking of what the audience can expect, Cara said: “The dances are amazing and some of the scenes are funny.”

Cara hopes that the show is as fun for audiences to watch as it has been for the cast to perform. She urged people to “get the tickets while you can”.

Little Mermaid promises to be spectacular, and seats are selling out fast. After all, what better way could there be to chase away the winter gloom than with a little Disney magic?

Disney’s Little Mermaid runs in the Ardhowen Theatre from Thursday, November 24 until Saturday, December 3.

Tickets are on sale now from the Ardhowen box office at 6632 5440, or online at www.ardhowen.com.
