Driver thought she was on her sister’s policy

A woman has been convicted of having no insurance by Enniskillen Magistrates Court.

The court heard on Monday that police were on mobile patrol of Enniskillen at around 1.30pm on September 6 when they observed a Vauxhall Insignia at the Shore Road.

Checks showed there was no active insurance in place and the car was stopped.

Police spoke to the driver, Sharon Christine Boyle (36), of Sycamore Drive, Enniskillen, who told them she was a named driver on her sister’s insurance policy.

A week later she went to Enniskillen Police Station and showed them a screenshot of the insurance policy, which had been purchased 40 minutes after she was stopped.

Michelle Mcveigh, solicitor for Boyle, told the court that on the date in question there was a valid policy of insurance for Boyle’s sister, but due to an administrative error, Boyle was not added to the policy.

Mrs. Mcveigh said Boyle’s driving licence was vital for her daily activities, and asked the court to give her credit for an early guilty plea.

For no insurance, Boyle was given eight penalty points and a £350 fine.
