Classical and Contemporar of Fermanagh Feis produces

- By Victoria Johnston

FERMANAGH Feis 2024 opened with all the drama you might expect when seven choirs from the local area attended Devenish College on Wednesday, February 28. Jonathan Rea was thrilled with the variety and praised all the School Children there for their commitment and dedication to Choral Singing.

Those gathered were delighted with two contrasting performances from each choir that allowed them to showcase all their hard work. Jonathan Rea was an encouraging adjudicator with a word of advice for everyone.

Special mention must go to the Choir Directors and Accompanists who brought out the best in our young people and a thanks to the Principal and Staff of Devenish College who provided a warm welcome to the Feis.

Roberta Bailie, Secretary for the Classical and Contemporary Music section was delighted with the standard and presentation of all the competitors.

She said: “It is wonderful to see and hear young people making music together there is nothing like a live performance, and as usual, Fermanagh produced an incredible sound. The choirs were superb!”

The Section moved on for the rest of the week to the venue of Jones Memorial Primary School.

The standard remained consistently high and even the heavy snow on the Friday was not enough to postpone proceedings, with sincere thanks to the Gault Family for clearing the School Car Park on Friday afternoon.

On Saturday, Miss Lesley Caldwell was the Adjudicator for the remainder of the Primary Vocals. Lesley had a hard time selecting her winners. Lesley shared top tips for performing and presented the children with plenty to think about in the process.

The future of music remains bright for Fermanagh.
