FERMANAGH Minor’s have drawn Limerick in the Electric Ireland Minor Football Tier 3 Championship. The All-ireland preliminary quarter-final will be played on May 18 at 2pm and will see Fermanagh face off against The Shannonsiders at a neutral venue, that is yet to be decided.

The Development CCC met on Tuesday to decide the draw as Laois and Antrim will also play in the other preliminary quarter-final at a neutral ground.

The main draw includes Westmeath at home to Carlow, Offaly hosting Waterford and Down making a trip to Meath.

Down defeated Fermanagh 3-14 to 0-06 in the final fixture of Group A in the Ulster Championship last weekend in Newry.

Both sides will play in the Tier 3 competition with Fermanagh fishing bottom of the group and Down one position above them.

“We were beaten by a very good Down team, to be honest,” manager Niall Mcelroy said after the game.

“They were very athletic, very physical, we found it difficult to compete with them.

“We did keep them at bay in the first half.

“But as the game wore on and in the second half when we tried to attack they found a lot more openings in our defence and had a lot of scoring chances to win the game well in the end up.

“We worked hard on trying to avoid conceding goals and I suppose we stopped them scoring a goal for 50 minutes or so but eventually, they wore us down, got three goals and realistically could have had a fourth.

“Our goalkeeper Darragh Treacy made a couple of outstanding saves and kept the score down a bit,” added Mcelroy.

Down led 0-06 to 0-02 at halftime with Daire Chapman grabbing both Fermanagh points through free kicks.

Chapman and Daithi Mohan would point for the away side in the second half until Down would strike for their first goal in the 50th minute and then add two more as the game entered the final minutes.

Mohan tagged on two long-range scores from play late on as the Mournemen raced to a 3-14 to 0-06 win in the end.
