WELCOME to the latest edition of IYCF. Just like that, summer seems to have come to an end. All of a sudden it’s dark by 7pm and, bar the sudden three-day heatwave a couple of weeks ago, the temperatures have felt notably cooler. A lot of anglers I speak to really look forward to this time of year as sport is undoubtedly more productive than during the months of July and August – especially for species such as perch, chub and barbel. This time of year also signals the start of the trade show season and over the next couple of months we’ll be getting a look at all the best new gear that your favourite brands have lined up for release in 2017. Make sure you keep an eye on the tackle pages over the next few issues for details on all of these items. Earlier this month I spent a day in the studio photographing a large pile of reels that you can purchase for less than £50. When I first started fishing there was a noticeable gulf between the budget-priced and more expensive reels. These days, the quality you can get without breaking the bank is incredible. One of the reels we had in, the Drennan Red Range Float, cost a penny under £20 and was far superior to anything I used as kid. Only time will tell how their lifespan compares to that of a reel with heftier price tag but, if you’re looking to kit yourself out and keeping your wallet happy, there’s certainly plenty of reels to choose from! I hope you enjoy the issue and please get in touch via email or social media to let us know your views and if you’ve had success on the tactics inside.
