Improve Your Coarse Fishing (UK)

Welcome from the Editor...

- James Furness Editor

WELCOME to the latest issue of IYCF. This month sees the start of a new series with England international Des Shipp. Des is equally at home fishing on canals and rivers as he is on commercials and with an incredible list of match fishing achievements, including five team England gold medals, he has a wealth of angling knowledge that few could rival. Whether using pole, waggler or feeder tactics he knows what he is on about. Speaking to readers and looking at the questions we receive on a regular basis, there is a high demand for information on basic angling skills. This is from newcomers and people returning to the sport after a long absence as well as anglers who fish regularly who simply want to brush up on their skills. So in his new monthly column, this is exactly what Des will focus on. No complicated rigs or convoluted bait concoctions, just simple advice focusing on core angling skills to help you fish better. There’s only a month to go until the UK’s rivers close to coarse anglers until June 16th, and if you’re planning on getting out for a couple of sessions before the end of the season we’ve got several features to ensure your season ends with a bang. Mark Perkins (page 24) reveals his clever twin attack for running-water perch which all but guarantees you’ll catch them whatever mood they’re in. And river fishing expert Dave Harrell (page 54) details the top five river species you should be targeting right now and the tactics you’ll need to catch them. Have a great month!
