THIS MONTH: HOW TO LOOSEFEED ACCURATELY

ASK any top angler which part of their attack they consider the most crucial and the majority of them will tell you that getting their feeding right is paramount to success. If you are careless with a catapult or pole pot and put in bait all over your swim you will spread the fish instead of concentrating them where you want them to sit. This will ruin your chances of getting regular bites. This month I show you how to use a catapult with pinpoint accuracy while still holding your pole.

Every pole angler will use a pot to feed their swim but getting all of your bait to the target zone can sometimes prove tricky. Follow my fivestep sequence and you’ll never drop another morsel of feed short of where you intend.

If you are fishing at 13m then two pole rollers are vital. Take four paces from your box up the bank and then put down the first roller. Take another four paces from there and put down the second roller. This will give your pole the necessary balance and support when shipping.

It may be necessary to extend the legs on one or both of the rollers to gain a progressive angle from the first to the second. If the rollers are the same height your top kit will sit well off the water when shipping in, putting too much pressure on the hookhold.

Once the pole leaves the roller furthest away from your box when shipping out, it is time to bring your knees into play. Roll the pole across your knees while continuing to ship to maintain the balance and prevent your pole from arching forward, dropping your bait from the cup in the process

Continue to ship out and once your pole has come off the roller closest to your box it should be perfectly balanced. Like a seesaw, the weight at both the back and front end of the pole will be the same so it doesn’t tilt either way.

You’ve now shipped out the whole 13m and the pole cup still contains every single piece of bait you placed in it. Correct positioning of your rollers and keeping the pole balanced has enabled you to do this.
