RecoRds Rules need to move with the times

I really think the British Record Fish Committee needs to sort out the rules recording record carp. Some of the comments made on social media regarding Vinny Parker's capture of Captain Jack from Holme Fen and his subsequent record claim were appalling. I appreciate that people are passionate about the sport but when people start saying that someone deserves to die just because they've caught a certain fish from a particular venue, they really need to remember that fishing is supposed to be an enjoyable hobby. If you don't want to fish for carp that have been imported then no-one is forcing you to. If someone is fishing with a valid rod licence at a venue that has been stocked legally then they should be allowed to enjoy their session without getting abuse on social media. So many venues these days stock fish imported from abroad that the BRFC need to change their criteria to suit. I think they need to set a cut off weight at which a fish needs to have been stocked at, for example 20lb. This would mean that any potential record claim would have had to have put the majority of its weight on in the lake where it was stocked. If the fish is then caught and weighed correctly it should be the record. Whether people then want to fish for that fish or agree with its heritage is up to them. The BRFC should simply record the biggest examples of each species caught in the country. There is far too much emotion, particularly in carp fishing, attached to what should simply be a factual recording of weights. Come on BRFC, move with the times.
