Rudd

-

BRIGHT red fins and a metallic green hue to their vibrant golden scales make rudd one of the most beautiful coarse fish. Their striking appearance has ensured they have long held a special place in the hearts of many anglers. Although small rudd are relatively common in UK fisheries, true specimens have traditionally been quite thin on the ground, but in recent seasons big rudd have made a positive comeback in many areas.

MOUTH

The upward sloping mouth indicates that rudd prefer to feed off the lakebed. They can often be found feeding on or just beneath the surface, especially during summer when flies hatch and surface bugs are a source of natural food.

EYE

Rudd can often be confused with roach. The yellow eye colour is one way of identifying rudd. The eye of the roach has a big red spot above the pupil.
