Approach: Feeder

-

When fishing three rods, I start with two on my more natural approach. The baits are a combo of red maggots, casters and worm. I chop the worm quite finely so that the loosefeed is quite small. This makes the hookbait stand out better. I also add a few 2mm Dynamite Baits’ Robin Red pellets. These are a similar colour to the maggots, hold fish in the swim for longer and break down slowly, releasing loads of flavour, taste and attraction. Tench also adore Robin Red and baits that contain it.

I fish my ‘ live bait stew’ in large Korum Maggot feeders. As well as holding lots of bait, they create a worthy bolt effect too. Fished helicopter style, I place my beads far enough up the leader so that the 4in hooklink presents the hookbait just above the feeder. This prevents tangles on the cast. The tackle I use is 10lb mainline due to the number of carp and large amount of weed in Bawburgh. The hooklink is 4in of 8lb
