Improve Your Coarse Fishing (UK)

KNOW YOUR SPECIES RUFFE

-

ONCE widespread and common, ruffe are now incredibly rare and only found in a few areas of the UK. They have a slow growth rate with an average size of between four to five fififive inches, but they can reach seven inches under ideal conditions.

Ruffe are actually incredibly difficult diffifificult to specifically specifififically target. You are most likely to catch a ruffe when fishing fififishing for other species using light tackle and small baits such as small pieces of worm or maggots on a size 18 to 20 hook.

Once caught, they have a habit of tensing themselves and extending their spiky dorsal fin fififin and flaring flflflaring their gill covers, so take care when handling one.
