WHAT IS A ROD LICENCE?

Almost every coarse angler is legally required to hold a rod licence. The only exception to this rule is for those under 12. Those aged 13 to 16 must possess a licence, although they are free to obtain. Bailiffs from the Government’s Environment Agency police the scheme and are empowered to ask to see your licence. If you are caught fishing without one, you could be fined up to £ 2,500 and receive a criminal record.
