Improve Your Coarse Fishing (UK)

YOUNGSTER'S DETERMINATION

GAVIN CHAPMAN, EMAIL

I just wanted to let you know what my son Zach has been up to regards fishing lately.

We set him a challenge a few weeks ago to catch seven different species of fish in seven weeks, with at least one species he's never caught before. This was to help raise funds and sponsorship for the Carp4Kids Academy event he will be attending this summer at S& R Fisheries in Caistor.

With the awful weather we have had, not once did he complain or get annoyed. He just loves being on the bank. He had to try and squeeze in as many fish from his hit list this weekend as possible, due to limited time available over the next few weeks.

Obviously the weather was against him, but he did not give up. So much hard work went into trying to catch these fish. He was constantly swapping his rigs/ rods, his techniques and his bait trying to hunt down and tick off the species he had on his list.

With the prep he has put in too, he really loved it. He was looking through my old fishing books and came up with about 10 or 12 different species he could target within reason, so he wrote his list and then we worked out which lakes and rivers would give him the best chance of hitting his target. As always, he’s made me so proud. Such a strong willed little angler.

Fishing three different lakes and a river he managed to catch roach, perch, common carp, mirror carp, bream, dace ( a new species for him) and his first ever eel!

He did so well in the heat that I had to treat him to a celebratory ice cream on the way home! The fish were all caught on a variety of methods and baits including worms, maggots, maize and Spa Bait boilies over some Monster Particles Hemp & Maize. All caught from local lakes and the River Witham south of Lincoln.

We would also like to say a massive thank- you to Fulbeck Waters lake near Grantham.
