Two of our favourite parts about swap­ping sum­mer for au­tumn are the glo­ri­ous shades of ochre and um­ber on the

trees and crisp leaves un­der­foot. In Fin­land, this riot of colour is so spec­tac­u­lar that they even have a word for it,

ruska – which takes place for a few weeks at the end of Septem­ber and into Oc­to­ber. Fin­land’s north­ern­most re­gion, La­p­land, is said to have the most varied shades and stun­ning sights of this nat­u­ral phe­nom­e­non
