Ellen was born and raised in Dublin but now lives in London. She began her food blog (www.ellenlunney.com) ve years ago as a way to celebrate her country’s cuisine, as she has “long believed that Irish food is up there with the world’s best”. Whether she is cooking at home or away, Ellen’s food philosophy is about cooking with locally-sourced ingredients – be that from independent grocers, growing her own or foraging local food.
“If I’ve grown something in my pots on the windowsill, or even just put the effort into lugging fresh produce home from the farmer’s market, I’m always very careful to use up every last scrap,” she says. “Lately, I’ve found this way of thinking pervading my regular weeknight cooking too – meaning plenty of carrot-top pestos and back-of-the-fridge herb-stem salsas!
As well as being delicious, Ellen believes that good food should also have “a history and a context and an occasion”.
“It should stay in your head,” she adds.
