School philosophy: Chigwell School was founded in 1629 and for nearly four centuries the school has been preparing pupils to go out into the world. It is a happy, mutually supportive, family-orientated community in which parents and sta™ work in partnership to help pupils reach their full potential and where friendships formed often last a lifetime. It is a busy school where pupils of all ages work closely with each other and their teachers. There is a special warmth about the nurturing Chigwell community, with excellent facilities set in a beautiful open site of 100 acres, within view of the City of London. Ultimately, Chigwell aims that each and every pupil will forge their own path to success, true to their motto: Find a way or make a way.

Academic record: Chigwell is an academically selective co-educational school for 4- to 18-year-olds with boarding available at Sixth Form. Chigwell pupils are academically ambitious and have a genuine eagerness to be involved in all that the school has to o™er. Pupils are regularly o™ered places among some of the most competitive universities in the UK and overseas. This year was no exception and examples include o™ers from Imperial, UCL, King’s, LSE, Durham, Bristol, Warwick, Edinburgh, Nottingham, Exeter, and several o™ers from Oxford and Cambridge.

Extra-curricular: Chigwell o™ers a vast array of activities, designed to provide each pupil the opportunity to get involved and discover passions. The most popular sports are football, hockey, cricket and netball but pupils also compete at national and international level, in sports like karate and golf to name a few.

The school has embarked on a development plan to further enhance its provision and has invested in the construction of a new sports centre, which is due for completion in September 2023. It will be home to a six-lane 25-meter swimming pool, five-court multipurpose sports hall, gym, individual studios, and a café.

School Philosophy: We value the unique talents of every one of our pupils and aim to instil in them a love of learning which prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life. We believe that nurturing the social and emotional development of our pupils will provide the foundation for their future happiness and success both personally and academically.

We aim to enhance and enrich our pupils’ personal, social, creative academic and physical development in order that they become confident, independent and responsible citizens who show kindness and consideration to others and contribute positively to society.
