WITH KEVIN IN COURT, REBECCA CALLARD TELLS US WHY ANNIE IS CONVINCED HE’S NOT GUILTY…

It’s not just the persistence of determined human rights lawyer Emma Banville that’s impressed us in ITV’S Fearless. It’s also the determination of Annie Peterson, the ex-fiancée of Kevin Russell, who remains convinced that he’s not a murderer and has been fighting to get him acquitted. And while Kevin suffers a setback in court this week, Rebecca Callard, who plays Annie, doesn’t think it will shake her character’s faith.

“I don’t think there’s ever been a moment where she thought, ‘Did he do it?’ – ever,” the star tells us. “I think she has a lot of guilt. If she feels like she’s having a great time, there’s this thought in the back of her mind that Kevin is incarcerated, that he’s missing out on this, and he’s innocent.”

Rebecca was really keen to play the role of Annie as soon as she saw the script because “this was something I would watch”, and informs us she found it quite easy to get into Annie’s head thanks to one of her co-stars. “I think Sam Swainsbury [who plays Kevin] is absolutely incredible in this,” she reveals. “I can’t even look at him without wanting to burst into tears!”

While Fearless has made us suspicious of many of its characters, Rebecca doesn’t think there’s any hidden agenda with Annie. “With Annie, what you see is what you get,” she shares. “I remember the costume designer saying, ‘She’s such a goodie, I want her look to be so pure’, so

I do wear a lot of pink – which I don’t in real life, because of being small and that kind of What Ever Happened To Baby Jane? thing that I’m desperately trying to avoid!”
