Emma manipulates poor Arthur

THE KILLER HAS YOUNG ARTHUR IN HER SIGHTS…

- Laura Heffernan

Guilty Emma fears Arthur is on the brink of exposing her role in the Hotten bypass pile-up, so this week the nurse sets out to buy the lad’s silence…

Poor Arthur was terrified by the footage of Emma’s manipulation of Ashley, who was the only one to witness her standing on the bridge on the day of the horrible accident. The boy has yet to fess up to what he’s seen, but Emma is petrified he’ll soon share her deranged performance. And with the Barton family finally achieving some kind of normality since James’ death, Emma is determined to shut Arthur down.

“Arthur has been too scared to confide in anyone about what he saw, but the longer that he stays quiet, the easier it is for Emma to take back control,” warns our Emmerdale insider. “She’s behaved abhorrently towards her family in the past, though never failed to talk her way back into their good books. We know she can spin a story, so how hard could it be to manipulate a grieving and traumatised nine-year-old?”

Emma decides to take action by graciously offering to escort squirming Arthur to the bus stop, and she uses the journey to give the reasons behind her actions in the tape. It’s another show-stopping display – but in spite of Arthur’s doubts over what he’s seen, Emma realises that the only way to save her skin is by destroying the video once and for all! Will she be able to get her hands on it?

“Emma and Laurel go on a walk, but Emma fakes an injury, and quickly makes her way to Mulberry Cottage!” explains our spy. “This is her golden opportunity to steal the evidence. Her plan is foiled, though, when Laurel gets back and wants to know exactly what she’s doing. This is a huge blow, because the last thing Emma wanted to do was draw attention to herself.”

Laurel is stunned by Emma’s behaviour, and even shares her concerns with Harriet, who has taken Emma under her wing since she joined the Church. Meanwhile, running out of options, Emma asks God to help her devise a new plan. Surprisingly, it seems the man upstairs is listening to her prayers, as she suddenly has a lightbulb moment – and gets ready to set her trap for vulnerable Arthur…

Although Arthur is keeping quiet for now,

Laurel senses something is troubling her child, and decides to seek advice when he starts wetting the bed. But the person she chooses to turn to is Emma! Is Laurel unwittingly putting her little boy in terrible danger?

The longer that scared Arthur stays quiet, the easier it is for Emma to take back control!”
