THE BEST CHRISTMAS PRESENT EVER!

The queen of the cobbles is on her way back to Weatherfield…

-

Batten down the hatches and prepare for one heck of a storm, as Carla Connor gets set to make a sensational return to Coronation Street!

Rumours of actress Alison King’s comeback have been doing the rounds for a while, but nothing concrete has been confirmed until now. Corrie boss Kate Oates has revealed that she only recently tempted star Alison to sign a new contract on the show – propelling Carla back to the heart of the Street drama ready for Christmas…

“It’s time to break new ground with Carla,” explains Kate. “I didn’t want to put her on that familiar cycle of self-destruction and recovery, followed by yet more selfdestruction. What we will have instead is two strong Connor women – Carla and Michelle – on opposing sides and in conflict for a change.”

The prospect of the pair at loggerheads comes as a huge surprise, given that Carla and Michelle have always been the best of friends. Michelle stood by Carla during some of the toughest times of her life, up to and including her friend’s scandalous one-night stand with Robert – which led to the breakdown of Carla’s relationship with Nick Tilsley.

But a lot has happened since Carla fled the cobbles to live in Devon. Michelle is now shacked up with Robert following the collapse of her own marriage to Steve, so it’s likely that her romance with the Bistro boss will put her and Carla at odds. Will that be the only reason they end up at war with each other?

“When Carla left the Street last May, she was a shadow of the fiery factory boss we had come to worship,” says our Coronation Street mole. “But it sounds as though she will be back at full strength, and ready to dish out some classic Corrie put-downs with her infamous acid tongue!”

If we think back to some of Carla’s biggest plots in Weatherfield – the Underworld factory siege, her numerous romantic disasters, not to mention Carla’s bitter feud with Tracy Barlow – they are all up there with some of the most dramatic stories the cobbles has ever seen.

Roll on December!
