“I don’t like Nathan – but I like playing him…”

-

As we await the verdict in Nathan’s trial, actor Chris is looking to the future…

What was it like filming Nathan’s court scenes?

The director made it feel like a movie set, with lots of different angles and great lighting – it was very exciting. When we finally came to record the verdict,

my heart was pounding.

How important is it to you for Nathan to face justice?

It’s very important. There are growing conviction rates for abuse cases, and the bravery of victims who come forward is being rewarded. Seeing the lifelong damage that abuse inflicts is a hard lesson, and that’s why it’s so good that

Corrie is doing this storyline.

How would you sum up your Street experience?

Nathan’s plots have twisted and turned, and that’s been really exciting. I’ve loved watching this snake grow – the way he thinks he’s so seductive, and all his selfdelusion. I don’t like Nathan, but I like playing him.

You’ve become involved with a number of related charities while on the show – that must have been invaluable?

I’ve had help from the police, social services, charities and survivors, giving me confidence at every turn. I’m very proud to be patron of Voicing

CSA – which helps adult survivors of child sexual abuse speak out – and to have worked so closely with the NSPCC. Our producer Kate Oates and the team here have been incredible.

We know this week is the last we’ll see of Nathan, so what’s next for you?

There are a number of exciting things coming up, but first will be an animation voiceover I’ve recorded for Voicing CSA. We’re hoping to launch it just as things come to a climax in Coronation Street.
