Gethin begs Bex not to ruin his life over one stupid mistake”
Devastated Bex goes all out to win back Gethin this week – as he gets closer to her mother, Sonia.
Following her shock kiss with her teacher during the Walford In Bloom explosion, the confused student has been fixated on getting Gethin to admit there is a connection between them. But he has been very clear that they must stay away from each other, and he’s been spending more time with smitten Sonia. So how will Bex react when she finds out her mum is getting serious with the man she desires?
“The only way Gethin could save himself is to move as far away from Walford as possible – or at least stop himself from making the whole thing worse!” laughs our Eastenders insider. “Teenage girls are not famous for their rational approach to romantic disappointment, and Bex is gutted. It’s bad enough that she can’t have him, let alone being forced to see her mum get him instead.”
Of course, Sonia has no reason to think there’s anything wrong with Gethin. She just sees this kind, understanding man who has been there for her and her daughter. After she and Gethin agree to meet at the café, Sonia thinks nothing of it when Bex arrives with her ex Shakil. He’s been nursing a huge crush on Bex, and would love her to give him another chance. But while Bex is giving Shakil the come-on, it’s all a masterpiece of manipulation as she tries to make stunned Gethin jealous.
It’s a pretty uncomfortable situation for the embattled teacher, who can’t believe that Bex is snogging oblivious Shakil for his benefit. Having ignored her for as long as he can, Gethin snaps and tells hurt Bex that she needs to stop all this nonsense. Then he heads back over to Sonia and plants a kiss on her instead.
The next day, it’s obvious Bex is angry about the new union, and Sonia is at a loss as to why. Michelle – who is an expert in student-teacher relationships – wonders if Bex has developed a crush on Gethin, and Sonia has to admit that the evidence is compelling. Interestingly, though, neither suspect that Bex’s feelings have been reciprocated – and Sonia wonders if she needs to end things with Gethin to protect her girl. Is she doing the right thing?
“Gethin knows Bex must be close to blabbing about their secret kiss,” explains our spy. “If Sonia finds out, he can say goodbye to his job, and probably look forward to a stint in prison. He fears that his world will fall apart, so he begs Bex not to ruin his life because of one stupid mistake.”
It looks as if things will calm down when Bex seeks out Gethin to apologise for losing her mind over what went on. She insists that Gethin’s secret is safe, and that she can cope with their relationship being platonic. And, in the spirit of moving forward, Gethin agrees to Bex’s request that he resume tutoring her.
But given how crazy in love Bex has been, and how things are blossoming between him and Sonia, is Gethin making a huge error by not keeping away from the whole family?
