THE STARS OF THE DALES ARE OUT IN FORCE TO LOOK BACK ON A DRAMATIC YEAR – AND ASK FOR YOUR VOTES…
When it comes to campaigning for your votes at this year’s Inside Soap Awards, Emmerdale almost doesn’t even have to bother! After picking up the Best Soap gong at our 2016 ceremony, they’ve swept the board at practically every awards do in the past 12 months. But despite their success, they’re taking nothing for granted.
“It would be so good to get Best Soap again,” grins Emma Atkins, aka Charity. “It gives everyone a buzz when we win – when you come in the day after an awards ceremony, you can feel how excited everyone is. You can hear everyone talking about it, in the make-up room and on set, we’re all just saying ‘well done’ to each other. It makes me really proud – I think that’s a good word for how we’re all feeling right now.”
It’s been a stellar year for the Yorkshire gang, with Ashley’s dementia and Rhona’s abuse plots taking centre stage. But among all that drama we’ve been able to rely on characters like Paddy, Marlon and Faith to keep our spirits up. And Best Newcomer nominee Sally Dexter (Faith) is already a Dales devotee.
“Emmerdale really cares about the people who watch the show,” she tells us. “And not just the people on Twitter who stamp their feet and scream a bit, but they care about people like my mum, who watches it because she loves it.”
