“I really do miss working with John!”

-

This is Alfie’s debut photo shoot – but as the nineyear-old practises posing before stepping in front on the camera, you would never know it!

“This is my first nomination for an award, and I can’t believe it!” he grins, as we ask him how it feels to be up for Best Young Actor. “I’m quite proud of myself, really.”

But while it may be the first time he’s up for a gong, Alfie is an acting pro, having been on the Dales set since he was two years old…

Congrats on your nomination, Alfie! What’s this year in the Dales been like for you?

It’s been a good year, even though it was really sad when Ashley died. Sometimes it’s been quite hard to learn my lines, especially when I’ve got loads of paragraphs. But my mum tests me on them at home.

What’s it like working with John and Charlotte?

Really nice. Charlotte is like another mum to me, because I’ve been working with her for about eight years now, and that’s a long time. I really do miss working with John, but we still see each other.

We know you’ve been raising money in aid of dementia in your spare time – what made you want to get involved?

Well, because of John’s storyline. People are dying from dementia, so hopefully I can help raise awareness so they’ll find a cure one day.

Who else have you enjoyed working with this year?

It was really good working with Gillian [Kearney, aka Emma]. That was nice because I’d been working in Mulberry Cottage for a long time, and I hadn’t really got to work in the church. The park is next to it, so when they’re setting up the scenes I can go and play on the swings!

Do you get recognised when you’re out with your mum?

Yeah, definitely. We went out for tea the other day, and a coach load of people came in from the Emmerdale Experience. Somebody shouted, “Arthur!” and came over and wanted me to sign stuff.

What scenes have you been filming recently?

We just had some shoots for Bonfire Night, which was nice. I got to eat a bit of chocolate – and stay up till 11!
