Comedian Jon Richardson picks his dream viewing…
The Bridge starting again
was big news in our house. And I’ve realised I’ve had Happy Valley
Sky+ed for so long that maybe I’ll just never watch it. We live in that area now, so it’s just as well I don’t associate the streets I walk my daughter down with horrific crimes!
I watch a lot of comedy – I watched James Acaster’s Netflix stand-up specials in my dressing room when I was on tour. I sort of obsess over stand-up, and I’m delighted that I still find it funny.
Also Gameface, Roisin [Conaty]’s sitcom, that was another show that we sat down together and watched.
A lot of the TV we
watch is sort of comedy through documentary – things like First Dates. When you’ve had a hard day, especially having a young kid, we actually just want to have a laugh for an hour.
When I was a kid, I could recite whole episodes of Bottom. I just used to watch it again and again. I watched a lot of stand-up – the Lee Evans DVD on a loop, Billy Connolly, stuff like that. Once I got out of the Saved By The Bell era, I graduated to comedy straight after that – I don’t remember much of a middle ground.
I would love to be a voice in a
Pixar film. I really like doing voices, and it’s something I don’t get to do a lot in my stand-up because I’m too busy complaining and tutting. So a career highlight would be getting flown to America just to do the voice of an incontinent squirrel!
