Jack proposes - as Mel’s ex returns!

WILL RAY’S SHOCKING ARRIVAL SCUPPER MEL AND JACK’S ROMANCE?

- Allison Jones

Jack asks Mel to marry him this week, but she has a big shock in store – as her ex-husband Ray turns up right in the middle of Jack’s proposal!

Mel is clearly delighted as Jack declares his love for her, so Ray’s entrance is the very last thing she’s expecting.

But why is he back in her life – and what will his sudden

reappearance mean for Jack and Mel’s future? “What a shocker!” spits our Walford spy. “Jack finally summons the courage to pop the question – and immediately comes face to face with Mel’s mysterious ex. It’s hardly the most romantic of scenarios – but how will it affect Mel’s answer?”

It’s Jack’s young daughter Amy who gets him thinking about matrimony at the start of the week, after she quizzes him about when he’s going to ask Mel to marry him. Having lost his wife Ronnie less than two years ago, it’s clearly an emotional step for Jack, who visits her grave while mulling over the idea. There’s a slight hiccup first, though, when Mel bumps into him clutching the big bouquet he’s about to take to the cemetery – and assumes the flowers are for her. But after

buying a new bunch and delivering them to Ronnie’s resting place, Jack eventually broaches the idea of proposing to Mel with her son, Hunter…

“Jack was devastated when he lost Ronnie,” our insider reminds us. “She died with her sister Roxy, who was little Amy’s mother. Jack and Amy have been to hell and back

– so no wonder he feels the need to visit the cemetery while considering their future. Approaching Hunter to find out what he’d make of Jack being his mum’s new husband speaks volumes about how much he feels for Mel.”

However, it seems Hunter’s blown Jack’s secret plans when he inadvertently mentions their chat to Mel. Fortunately, Hunter’s indiscretion convinces her of what a good man Jack really is. And when he begins building up to the big question later at E20, Mel is suitably encouraging…

“Like Jack, Mel has reasons for not entering into a new marriage lightly,” insists our snoop. “We know little about the nature of her split from Ray, but the past few months haven’t been easy for Mel or her boy. Her romance with Jack has had its ups and downs, yet just as it seems she’s ready to take a chance on happiness again, Ray arrives!”

Jack is nervously awaiting Mel’s response as Ray walks through the door. She’s left speechless at seeing him – though as soon as Ray realises what he’s barged into, he leaves. But as far as Jack is concerned, is the damage already done?

“It turns out that Hunter summoned Ray to Walford, although he didn’t explain why,” reveals our sneak. “While it doesn’t initially appear that Ray intends to interfere in Mel and Jack’s romance, Mel’s panic at his presence sends all the wrong messages to Jack. Hunter, meanwhile, has a lot of explaining to do – but has he already put just the right amount of doubt into his mum’s mind?”
