“Jude doesn’t exactly lie – but he doesn’t tell the truth either!”
Liar Jude pulls out all the stops to rescue his marriage this week – but he ends up telling the whole Street another huge fib in the process!
With mother Mary’s help, the determined fella has been secretly arranging for him and Angie to renew their wedding vows, in the hope that she will agree to give their failing relationship another chance.
However, disaster strikes on the big day when Roy’s life is thrown into danger – presenting opportunistic Jude with a golden chance to play the hero, and shamelessly dupe Angie into believing yet another one of his tall tales…
“Jude just doesn’t think of the consequences when he makes decisions,” despairs actor Paddy Wallace, who plays him. “His whole reason for being is Angie, George and their family unit – so everything that he does is about winning back his wife. He doesn’t think twice about using a situation to his advantage, if it’s something that puts him in a good light!”
The Appleton marriage hit the rocks after Angie learned that their relationship was based on a big fat lie – that Jude wasn’t really a marine biologist. The couple have since entered into marriage counselling, but Angie can’t see past her husband being a compulsive liar – and has told Jude that they are over.
However, Jude won’t accept her decision, as he and Mary persist with arranging the vow renewal service – leaving Angie gobsmacked when she arrives for a ceremony that she knows absolutely nothing about!
“Jude expects Angie to walk in, see him in a suit in front of all their guests, and for it to reignite her feelings for him,”

shares Paddy. “But as soon as he sees Angie, he knows right away the plan has gone badly. Her reaction is not good!”
Angie is furious that Jude has been plotting behind her back, so he lays the blame at Mary’s door and says that she sprung the whole thing on him! Will Angie believe his lie and agree to cooperate, sparing Jude the humiliation of jilting him in front of their guests?
Meanwhile, terror unfolds for Roy as the cobbles favourite is stung by a bee, and goes into anaphylactic shock! Luckily, doctor Ali is passing by and is able to administer treatment at the scene, while Jude calls an ambulance. However, as
Ali rushes off to the GP surgery to get some more medical supplies, it’s Jude who is at Roy’s side when he comes to – and he hails Jude a hero!
“Roy thinks Jude has saved his life – and in typical Jude fashion, he decides not to correct him,” explains Paddy. “He doesn’t necessarily lie in the moment, but he doesn’t exactly tell the truth either. Jude is very quick to realise that he will be able to make this situation work for him.”
After Jude also fails to mention Ali’s involvement, the locals heap praise on Mary’s son and Angie melts, telling him how proud of him she is. Will Jude succeed in winning her over with his false heroics – thereby basing any future they might have on yet another lie?
