Dee Dee’s life hangs in the balance

TEGAN SEEKS LEGAL ADVICE IN A BID TO STOP THE YOUNGSTER’S TREATMENT…

- Sarah Ellis

Worried mum Diane suffers another devastating blow this week, when doctors tell her that Dee Dee’s treatment isn’t working – and they want to try the little’un on chemotherapy.

But while Diane is willing to do anything to save her little girl’s life, Dee Dee’s biological mum Tegan isn’t so sure that chemo is the right way to go – and seeks legal advice so she can finally get a say in her daughter’s treatment!

“Tegan wants to know what her rights are!” declares Jess Ellis, who plays the heartbroken mother. “She’s sick of people going, ‘Poor Tony and Diane’, because she’s going through this as well. She’s desperate, as she feels Diane is shutting her out. She needs to know where she stands legally.”

Things have been tough for Dee Dee’s loved ones since the youngster was diagnosed with a life-threatening brain condition. Yet it’s not just parents Tony and Diane who are worried – Tegan is also scared of losing Dee Dee, who was switched at birth with her daughter, Rose.

It’s a complicated situation, which is made worse by the fact that Dee Dee fails to recognise Tegan when she visits her in hospital this week.

“Filming that scene was hard,” admits Jess. “When she doesn’t recognise her, it’s a horrible feeling for Tegan.

Diane explains that it’s just part of the illness, it’s something that happens. Though because of the situation, Tegan really takes it to heart.”

After doctors suggest the idea of chemotherapy, Diane is on board. However, as a medical professional,

Tegan isn’t so sure it’s the right course of action.

“Tegan’s a nurse, but also she’s been through chemo herself,” Jess reminds us. “She knows how it feels, and she doesn’t want Dee Dee to go down that road. This might be last chance saloon for Dee Dee, and Tegan doesn’t want the time she has left to be really unbearable and horrible.

Tegan doesn’t want Dee Dee to go down the road of chemo…”

She’d rather they just made the best of it.”

With Diane insisting that Tegan gets no say in what happens to Dee Dee, Tegan feels that she has no choice but to take drastic action – so she goes to lawyer James!

“What is she thinking? This is the guy who tried to get her brother sent down for murder!” despairs Jess. “But Tegan’s really frustrated, and that’s why she goes to James. Ideally she wants them all to sit down and discuss Dee Dee’s treatment together, though she feels that it’s two against one – Diane and Tony have each other, and she doesn’t have anyone.”

What will James advise Tegan to do? Does she have any legal claim to Dee Dee? Or will she have to accept that Diane and Tony are calling the shots now?
