THRILL OF THE CHASE

JODIE COMER AND SANDRA OH STAR IN A NEW CAT-AND-MOUSE DRAMA…

-

After watching Phoebe Waller-bridge’s brilliant, Bafta-winning black comedy Fleabag, we were very excited to see what she would do next – but we most definitely weren’t expecting her follow-up project to be an international espionage thriller.

In Killing Eve, deskbound MI5 officer Eve Polastri is bored by her job, and frustrated that her superiors aren’t acting on her hunch that a hired killer they’re trying to track is female – so she decides to do a little investigating of her own.

“When you first see Eve, she has a very good relationship with her husband Niko, a good job and great colleagues,” explains former Grey’s Anatomy star Sandra Oh, who plays her. “Everything is fine with her life, but she just happens to be a character who wants more.”

Eve finds this new lease of life in the hunt for Villanelle (Doctor Foster’s Jodie Comer), a talented and enigmatic assassin living a carefree life.

“Between the two of them, there is a mutual fascination and admiration for the other,” reveals Jodie. “I think Villanelle’s ego goes through the roof when she finds out there is a lady at MI5 on a search to find her! But there is something that is missing in Villanelle that is within Eve, and vice versa.”

Playing the role of a multilingual assassin gave Jodie a lot of challenges to get stuck into, and she admits that some aspects of the role did not come easily.

“I’ve got really bad co-ordination!” shares the star. “I’m sure there are out-takes of me walking on to set with the gun the wrong way round! But it was something I’d never done before, so it was exciting.”
