Imran lashes out at Yasmine

- Sarah Ellis

There’s another dramatic twist in Imran’s abuse story this week, when he lashes out and hits his sister, Yasmine! We caught up with star Haiesha Mistry (Yas) to see how her character reacts to her brother’s shock violence…

Yas has been drugging Imran with their mum’s anxiety medication. Why has she been doing that?

In her eyes, it’s the only way to keep her mum safe, because she knows that Imran is abusing Misbah. When we were filming those scenes, I was like, “Wow, this is taking a real turn here!”

She tries to drug him again when Aunty Kameela comes over. What happens?

Well, Aunty Kameela is quite snotty, so everybody is on edge. And Yas really despises Imran at this point! But she realises she doesn’t have enough pills left, so she goes to the pharmacist to get some more – and she steals a prescription pad from her mum! It’s a very silly thing to do.

So how does it escalate into Imran hitting her?

He finds out she’s been drugging him after the prescription pad falls out of her bag – and that’s when he hits her. That changes everything for her – she still had a tiny bit of love for her brother before, but now that he’s turned on her, she wants to completely disown him. He doesn’t even apologise for what he’s done.

What was it like for you and Ijaz (Rana, aka Imran) to film these confronting scenes?

It was great. The whole Maalik family is very close, so when we do these type of scenes, we can really get into them. We know each other so well now, that it’s actually a breeze to do any of these emotional episodes.

We love Yas’ colourful style! What do you think of it?

I absolutely love it! I’m quite similar in real life anyway – I like to do colour clashes like Yasmine does. So if I put up an

Instagram post where

I’m mixing colours or patterns, everyone always thinks that

I’m wearing my Yas costume – and I’m like,

“No, that’s just me!”
