I loved getting all the gossip! Jason Herbison, Producer

He’s now in charge of Neighbours – but for us, Jason was always big Down Under…

For 15 years, Jason Herbison was our man in Australia, reporting on the goings-on in their soaps. These days, he still brings us all the drama – as the executive producer of Neighbours!

“The one lesson I learned from working for Inside Soap is the value of publicity,” he says, chatting to us from Melbourne. “To this day, I always make sure that our cast is available for interviews, and we have lots of wonderful photography to fill the magazine pages.”

Back when Jason first worked on Inside Soap, the demand for Oz soap gossip was at an all-time high…

“Over here, we knew the shows were popular, but no idea of the extent!” he exclaims. “It’s still mindboggling, given we are geographically so far away. I encourage your readers to write in and demand another Neighbours cover – it’s time!”

For a lot of his time working for Inside Soap, Jason was a one-man soap machine – also writing scripts for many of Oz’s most popular dramas…

“It was a lot of juggling,” he recalls. “At one stage, I had the back half of my house in Sydney set up as a photo studio, and had soap stars coming and going all the time. I was in my late 20s, so it was a very social environment, and I got all the gossip – which I loved. Most actors were terrific fun and some very naughty!
