“Ross wants a fresh start with Rebecca and to play happy families!”
All hell breaks loose this week, as Charity and Robert discover that Ross and Rebecca plan to leave Emmerdale village with their children in tow.
They go nuclear when they discover that the traumatised couple expect to take their sons Moses and Seb away, and a fight ensues. But while Ross is determined to go no matter what, Rebecca is torn. That leads to some tough decisions for them both.
“It gets very complicated,” reveals Michael Parr, who plays the Barton brother.
“Ross wants to have a fresh start with Rebecca, and he wants them to play happy families. It’s a massive opportunity for him to turn away from all this bad boy stuff and go straight from now on. He’d like to do that with the woman he loves.”
No one could blame them for wanting to escape, but that doesn’t mean Robert or Charity are going to let their little boys be spirited away. In particular, it turns out that Ross has seriously underestimated Moses’ mum.
“Ross thought that Charity would be willing to let Moses go because she’s a bit of a rubbish mum,” shares Michael. “But she’s turned a corner since Ryan showed up, and she’s trying to correct the mistakes from her younger years. He and Rebecca were more aware that Robert and Aaron would protest about them taking Seb, though.”
When Robert overhears a discussion being had about Ross and Rebecca’s plans, he’s horrified. With husband Aaron, infuriated Robert makes it clear there’s no chance.
“It’s all a bit weird because Ross is arguing that he should have parental responsibility seeing as he’s raised Moses, but then
Rebecca is arguing the opposite with Robert, even though he’s been bringing Seb up,” shares Michael. “Rebecca has to do the right thing by her son, but Ross has to leave the village, no matter what.”
Faced with a tug of love with Robert, Rebecca suggests they should wait a while and
not rush into their move. Although, as Ross isn’t willing to halt his plans, does that mean the end for them?
“Ross isn’t moving miles away, so he explains to her that it doesn’t have to be over between them,” reveals the star. “But he definitely has to go because every time he turns a corner in Emmerdale, he’s reminded of what he went through. He’s lost his mum, his dad, his little brother, had his heart broken and acid thrown in his face. Rebecca needs that fresh start too. They didn’t have the best beginning as a couple, but they are two damaged humans who’ve turned to each other for help and found love.”
Will Rebecca end up losing the man she loves, or can she and Ross find a way to make it work?
