“Everyone knows someone a bit like Gemma!”

-

It’s a double whammy for Dollyrose Campbell, who has scooped our Funniest Female trophy two times on the trot. When we first met wayward Gemma back in 2014, there was nothing very funny about her troubled life – but since moving to the cobbles, she has lit up the Street with her wacky outfits and quirky turn of phrase. Even heartbreak at the hands of her fancy ex-fiancé Henry couldn’t suppress Gemma’s sense of humour for long – so no wonder she’s your queen of comedy once more…

You’ve been voted Funniest Female again – did you expect it?

No, not at all, it’s always a surprise – and I’m really pleased. It’s always nice to be voted for, and to know that the audience are enjoying watching Gemma and she’s popular. So thank you very much to everyone – and please keep watching!

Who would you have voted for?

I’m in good company with all the other nominees in this category, but I like Tameka Empson [Eastenders’

Kim]. She’s always very funny, so I’d have voted for her. I’ve not met her yet, as I don’t get out much – I’m a bit of an old-timer!

Why do you think Gemma strikes such a chord with the Coronation Street viewers?

Well, she’s had her heart broken recently, and I think people care about her. And I think everyone knows somebody a bit like Gemma. I’ve based different aspects of her on many different people.

What have been your favourite Gemma moments this year?

She’s a fun character, and the stories that I get to play with her are all really enjoyable. The good thing about

Coronation Street is that there are plenty of other comedy characters to bounce off. And the more experiences Gemma has, the more we learn about her in the process. I’ve been very lucky!

Who makes you laugh?

Melanie Hill, who plays Cathy. We share a dressing room together, and I’d say that I’m her biggest fan!

Your co-star Simon Gregson (Steve) has won Funniest Male – would you like more scenes between Steve and Gemma?

They’ve not had much together so far, have they? But it would be cool if they could go on an adventure together somewhere. That would be hilarious.

Do you know where you might keep your award yet?

I’ve not got that much room at home, so maybe I’ll put it in my dressing room.

Can you tease us about what’s coming up for Gemma?

There’s lots of different stuff happening over Christmas – a bit of a blast from the past, which is quite revealing. It might show us a few different elements of Gemma’s character, and explain some things about why she’s like she is. There’s plenty more to come!
