KINGDOM COME

A NEW ENEMY REVEALS HERSELF AS THE HISTORICAL DRAMA MAKES THE MOVE TO NETFLIX…

-

After two series of ninth-century power struggles on BBC2, The Last Kingdom moves to Netflix for its third series this week – and we can confirm that it’s lost none of its swagger, as the latest run brings us more political machinations and blood-strewn battles…

“Hopefully there are many more series to come, but it feels like series one and two have been building to this point,” teases David Dawson, who plays King Alfred. “It really is life-and-death decisions this year.”

“Uhtred is in a very comfortable place,” adds Alexander Dreymon, who plays the mighty warrior. “Alfred and Uhtred are getting along surprisingly well at the beginning of the series – then it all hits the fan…”

One reason for that is the arrival of the Saxons’ most fearsome enemy yet, Skade, played by Norwegian actress Thea Sofie Loch Naess. While Skade appears small and physically unimposing, she possesses enough power to unleash a chain of events that will devastate Uhtred and his allies.

“Thea’s brilliant, and playing so far away from what she really is as well,” enthuses Harry Mcentire, who plays Aethelwold. “She is one of the kindest, sweetest people I’ve ever met, yet she plays a character with such intensity and ferocity and violence. It’s an amazing thing to see somebody do that.”

“And kudos to production for casting somebody like that,” agrees Alexander. “I think it’s going to be very surprising for everyone to see such an angelic face committing these horrible acts of torture.”
