Ruby discovers Martin’s betrayal
SHE’S ROCKED WHEN SHE HEARS OF THE POLICE’S NEW EVIDENCE…
Ruby is crushed this week, when she learns that Martin gave vital evidence to the police which could harm her chances of bringing her rapist to justice.
Stacey’s best friend has been trying hard to move on with her life since the shocking events of last month. Having reported to the police how she didn’t consent to have sex with Martin’s old school pal Matt, her only choice now is to wait and see if charges will be made against him. In the meantime, she collects the keys to her new home, keen to make a fresh start in Walford.
“Ruby is a strong woman, even if this has knocked her for six,” says our Albert Square insider. “She’s determined that this won’t destroy her life. However, when the police visit for an update, she’s shocked that they have a photograph showing her kissing Matt at E20! What she can’t comprehend is how such a photo exists, and how it’s fallen into police hands. She’s crushed, as she knows it will weaken her statement that she didn’t consent to have sex.”
After Martin calls round later, he’s quick to comfort upset Ruby about the development. But since he shared the picture with the police in the first place, he struggles to hide his growing feelings of guilt.
“Martin doesn’t want to hurt Ruby,” stresses our snitch.
“He feels awful, even though he actually did the right thing in being honest with the law. Despite not proving that Ruby consented to sex that night, the reality is that it does support Matt’s defence more – and if the case goes to court, the prosecution will have a tough time insisting that
Ruby’s story is the truth.”
Wracked with guilt, Martin begs Kush to say that he gave the police the photo, and he reluctantly agrees. Elsewhere, Ruby tells Stacey about the latest police update and reveals that she’s dropping the charges.
“Stacey rages at Kush for his betrayal!” gasps our mole. “Of course, Martin immediately realises that he has to come clean, and Stacey is appalled that her husband undermined Ruby’s case. The question is: can the situation be salvaged?”
Stacey demands Martin tells Ruby the truth, and he agrees to own up. Ruby is shocked – but will she change her mind about trying to get justice?
