Chas & Paddy are drifting apart

The simmering tension between Paddy and Chas explodes this week, leaving their relationship hanging by a thread.
Ever since baby Grace died, her grief-stricken parents have started to grow apart, and it looks as though the distance between them can’t be closed. Chas confides in Lydia, and Marlon does his best to stand by Paddy – although it all comes to a head when Paddy makes a gesture that leaves Chas cold, and she loses it.
“What’s tragic is that Paddy and Chas have never needed each other more,” explains our Emmerdale insider. “They have so much love for each other, yet their different ways of dealing with Grace’s death has driven a deep wedge between them. Everyone around them is worried about them and the state of their relationship, but only they can put this right.”
Paddy’s approach is to show Chas how much she means to him by staging a romantic meal, with Marlon’s help. He’s terrified that he’s losing Chas and that it’s too late to win her back – however, best friend Marlon insists that Paddy must be upbeat and proactive, and convinces him that a nice quiet dinner date will give them a chance to reconnect. But when Chas arrives to find the table laid and Paddy waiting for her, it feels wrong. Her grief is too raw, and all the anger and hurt she feels about Paddy’s cold and detached behaviour comes pouring out. Soon, they are in the middle of the worst row they’ve ever had.
“It’s a vicious, devastating shouting match and things are said that will cut deep,” says our spy. “Chas is like a woman possessed and Paddy is just floored by how furious she is – yet he can’t control his anger either. It gets so bad that they end up spilling out into the Woolpack bar and having a public showdown that shocks
everyone there. Finally,

Broken Paddy finds himself at Tall Trees with Marlon, who is devastated that it’s come to this. Meanwhile, Chas rips down all the decorations in the pub and sits in the middle of the carnage in a terrible state. She’s later surprised by unexpected visitor Eric Pollard, who has something he wants to share with Chas. Will his words move her, or is Chas ready to make a break from Paddy and start again?
