Harriet encounters a drug addict

WHY IS SHE SO FREAKED OUT TO MEET DRUGGIE DAWN?

- Allison Jones

Vicar Harriet is left stunned this week, when she comes face to face with drug addict Dawn. But why is she so alarmed by the arrival?

The mystery unfolds after Dawn tries to kiss Pete, who rejects her advances. In the aftermath of the awkward situation, Dawn tries to make a run for it – but Harriet blocks the way, and she and the druggie are knocked for six to lay eyes on each other.

It’s apparent that they’ve met before – so will their unexpected reunion prove to be a welcome one?

Back at the start of the week, Dawn is forced to kip on the streets, after she’s confronted by the harsh realities of life.

“Pete and Rhona find

Dawn sleeping rough in the community garden shed,” explains Olivia Bromley, who plays Dawn. “It’s freezing and Dawn has absolutely nowhere to go. She’s quite ashamed about how she’s ended up, but she’s cold and wet and having to survive in a dire situation – it’s really tough for her.”

After what she deems to be a mortifying incident, Dawn is further shocked when Pete discovers her soliciting in a car park. Feeling compelled to intervene, Pete offers her a place to stay for a while. However, Dawn takes his generosity the wrong way – and makes a move on him…

“That doesn’t go down well!” admits Olivia. “She’s having to sell herself to survive as well as to keep her addiction going, so she isn’t used to kindness. And she doesn’t quite understand that Pete’s offer has come from a nice place – she mistakes it for something else and thinks he wants something in return.”

Embarrassed Pete wastes no time in telling Rhona about Dawn’s kiss – prompting Rhona to have it out with her. Dawn is humiliated, and just wants to let it lie – but in the melee, she shoves Rhona who hits her head. Luckily, it’s at this moment that Harriet emerges, foiling the woman’s attempts to flee the scene. “Dawn doesn’t want to hurt Rhona in any way – but

she’s very defensive

and just wants to run,” sighs Olivia. “And when Harriet pops up, Dawn is completely floored – it’s a big twist for this plot, and something that

Dawn never expected.

“But Harriet isn’t expecting to see Dawn either. They clearly know one another, and it’s very obvious that they share a past with each other…”

Harriet is left hoping that Dawn will soon be long gone – so her face says it all as Dawn later challenges her outside the church, aghast to realise her former acquaintance is now a woman of the cloth.

Is the mysterious nature of the connection between vicar and drug addict about to be unveiled?
