Serena prepares for a new day on AAU this fortnight – until Greta, the wife of her nephew Jason, is rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries!
Poor Greta has been in an horrific car accident, and with the help of Donna and Essie, it falls to Serena to try to save her…
“The beginning of any new year is always a sad time for Serena, as it marks the anniversary of her daughter Elinor’s death,” recalls our Holby source. “Serena was powerless to help then, and it breaks her heart to think that history might repeat itself with Greta.”
After instructing the team to prep Greta for theatre, Serena meets with Jason – who refuses to believe that his wife is badly hurt. Meanwhile, Greta’s initial operation appears to go well, until Serena receives word that her patient’s condition has deteriorated rapidly.
“Serena’s instinct is that Greta’s blood has begun to clot, and she requires urgent attention from a vascular surgeon,” explains our insider. “However, Serena’s worry is that the on-call doctor is unlikely to have ever performed the rare procedure that Greta urgently requires, and without the operation, she’ll die within hours.”
Greta’s last hope rests with Serena, whom it turns out has performed the specialist surgery. However, if she goes ahead and Greta dies, will she ever forgive herself?
And how could she even begin to tell Jason?
